Pricing of Art on the open market
The price of Artwork in the market is influenced and inflated well above the actual value and price that artist's set for it by the fact that all Galleries, both online Galleries as well as Brick and Mortar Galleries, charge extraordinary fees and commissions to represent Artists and market their work. These fees, commissions and profit markups range up to 100% and even more in some cases. As with any other profit driven retailer or outlet, Galleries exist to make a profit. With Art, it is unfortunately a very large profit.
This fact is carefully concealed from buyers at these Galleries.
For example: If the Work is priced at say US$ 2000.00 ( or R 16000.00) at these Galleries, the actual value for the Artwork set by the Artist is only around US$ 1000.00 ( R 8000.00) and the rest is profit in the pocket of Galleries that sell it...
Few people consider this or are even aware of this fact.
What this means in reality is that any Art when bought through any facility or Gallery that represents an Artist has been priced well above it's actual value, artificially inflated by markups, fees and commissions and thus taken away from the buyer/investor the investment return value - to a great extent - by making as much profit on the art as what the artist charges for actually creating the work ...
And this purely just for selling it ...
The Serowe Art Gallery supplies works directly from the Resident Artist's Studio in the Gallery to the buyer: there is therefor no fees, commissions or markups added on the prices set by the Artist and it takes very little effort to calculate what these works will sell at - if sold through representing Galleries or such Online Facilities.
The prices at which the works are available at here are at least 50% below Normal Gallery Value.
This gives your purchase from this Studio more potential investment return and value that directly effects your pocket...
Valuation/Authenticity Certificates are supplied with all Works.
As the Serowe Art Gallery was founded and established by the Artist as a facility that runs a Youth Assistance Programme that assists talented youngsters with art classes, tutoring, materials and skills development, income generated by the Gallery is applied to fund this programme. The artist has 40 years of experience and these professional classes would normally be extremely expensive and hardly accessible to most.
In line with this policy of assistance, offers on works are welcomed, and will be considered. Please do
